Early Childhood Classroom Additions and Renovations

The Lincoln Public Schools Early Childhood Program was established to prepare children for kindergarten and beyond. With the program’s proven success at a limited number of schools within the District, the Board of Education elected to expand program space in four elementary schools as part of Phase 4 of the 2020 Ten Year Facilities and Infrastructure Plan. Sinclair Hille Architects was hired to complete the work for each of these schools — Fredstrom Elementary School, Roper Elementary School, Kooser Elementary School, and Humann Elementary School.

While the programmatic goals were consistent across all four projects, each design solution was uniquely tailored to blend seamlessly with the existing architecture and character of its respective school. The scope of work for each project included the addition of Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms, accessible restrooms, teacher support spaces, storage areas, and custodial closets. The projects also prioritized secure access points, improved building flow and circulation, and strengthened physical connections between new and existing classroom spaces. Particular attention was given to creating a cohesive relationship between the exterior and interior aesthetics, ensuring that the additions complemented and enhanced the overall campus environment.

The Concordia University Team has always worked through the design process with Sinclair Hille’s leadership and come away feeling like our project priorities were understood. Setting overall project goals in the initial design meeting with Sinclair Hille has proven to be a key to our success.
