Student Union Renovation and Expansion

Sinclair Hille, in association with Sasaki Associates, provided architectural services for a $10 million expansion and renovation to the Nebraska Student Union located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln City Campus.

The project involved a 66,000 s.f. renovation of the existing building and a 53,000 s.f. addition. The addition included a 325-seat tiered auditorium, additional lounge and food court dining space, expanded facilities for the Student Involvement Center and Union Administration, new facilities for the Daily Nebraskan student newspaper, and several new meeting rooms. A 24-hour Student Computing Services room and an art gallery for display of student work are located on the first floor, along with expanded student lounge areas.

The exterior of the addition was designed to respect the Neo-Georgian architectural style of the original 1938 building, while also integrating the later 1969 addition. The project included a newly designed plaza and interactive water feature directly north of the Union for both formal and informal gatherings.

The design team from Sinclair Hille were sensitive to the unique needs of our business model and incorporated our requests within the overall design of our branch facility, a facility that was built not only for the needs of the bank branch today, but, also, with flexibility for what future demands might be.  We are extremely happy with the end product and appreciate the professionalism and attention to detail of the team from Sinclair Hille Architects.
