West Haymarket Private Development

THE RAILYARD, CANOPY LOFTS AND HOBSON PLACE

West Haymarket is part of an eight-block expansion of Lincoln’s popular Historic Haymarket District. Public and private investment is converting over 400 acres of underutilized railroad property on the western edge of the Haymarket District into an active entertainment and living district on the doorstep of the new Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Traction Development Partners served as the prime developer for the West Haymarket Redevelopment project. Sinclair Hille Architects, in conjunction with Encompass Architects, provided architectural design services for buildings developed by Traction Development, which includes over $100 million in private building investment. Specific components designed by the Sinclair Hille team include 100,000 sq. ft. of retail, 100,000 sq. ft. of commercial, 100,000 sq. ft. of residential, and a new hotel/condominium development.

Buildings completed to-date by Traction Development and the Sinclair Hille design team include:

  • Railyard – a three story-entertainment district with retail and office spaces surrounding a public plaza.
  • Canopy Lofts – a six-story mixed-use building that includes first-floor retail and 72 units of loft-style apartments for rent on floors two through six.
  • Hobson Place – a seven-story mixed-use building with 111 hotel rooms and 29 luxury condos.

I enjoyed working with SHA on the Canopy Street Project.  It was a very complex project which required both large scale design thought as well as a focus on small details. Their professionalism impressed me as well as all of the other clients in the project from restaurants, to hotel operations through condo buyers, SHA continued to move the project forward and solve problems with all in mind.  As a licensed architect myself I really appreciated their willingness to partner with me and listen to my design ideas while improving the direction time and time again. Quite simply, Canopy Street would not have been nearly as successful without SHA’s talented staff.
