Union Bank Rock Island Depot

The renovation and expansion of Union Bank at 19th and O Street in Lincoln, Nebraska, transformed a historic train depot into a modern banking facility while preserving its original architectural character. Previously converted for banking use, the 3,000-square-foot building required additional capacity following its acquisition by Union Bank, including five new drive-up lanes to accommodate increased customer traffic.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building required a sensitive design approach to ensure that new construction complemented its historic character. A new drive-up canopy was carefully designed to integrate with the existing architecture while providing improved functionality and accessibility.

The project also included a complete interior renovation and expansion to better serve customers and employees. Improvements included an expanded teller line, additional loan officer stations, and an upper-level employee breakroom. These updates enhanced the building’s functionality while maintaining the architectural integrity of the historic depot, allowing it to continue serving the community through adaptive reuse.
