Student Housing | Mixed Use Development Study
This off-campus student housing study, conducted for a private developer, explored how affordable student housing can become a catalyst for community activity, economic growth, and neighborhood identity. Rather than functioning as a standalone residential development, the project was envisioned as an integrated urban destination that strengthens connections between students, local businesses, public spaces, and surrounding neighborhoods.
The site plan was organized around connectivity to the city and views to the river. A landscaped pedestrian corridor extends through the development, linking residents to a nearby walking paths and creating a quick connection to existing recreational amenities. Parking areas were intentionally screened and positioned to prioritize walkability, while flexible gathering spaces and food truck locations were incorporated to support community events and activate the site throughout the year. Opportunities for public art installations were woven into the design, reinforcing the creative character of the district and contributing to a unique sense of place.
