Designed by Sinclair Hille Architects and constructed by Beckenhauer Construction, the Faith Lutheran Sanctuary Addition reflects a shared understanding of the congregation’s history, traditions, and vision for its future. We worked closely with church leadership and the congregation to create a welcoming new home for worship while thoughtfully connecting the addition to Faith Lutheran’s existing school campus.
The nearly 11,000-square-foot addition establishes a dedicated sanctuary for more than 300 worshipers, replacing the gymnasium that had served as the congregation’s worship space for more than 20 years. The architecture creates a distinct identity for the sanctuary while complementing the existing campus through a restrained palette of brick, metal panel, and carefully proportioned forms. A prominent central gable and rooftop cross establish the sanctuary as a place of worship, while the large stained-glass window provides a colorful focal point at the exterior and brings natural light and visual richness into the worship space.
Inside, the sanctuary is intentionally bright, open, and uplifting. A simple, light-colored interior and vaulted ceiling draw attention toward the altar and cross, while natural light and Richard Wiegmann-designed stained-glass windows bring color and symbolic imagery into the space. The flexible worship environment accommodates the congregation’s varied forms of worship and active arts community, including motorized lifts that allow artwork to be installed at the front of the sanctuary and along the center aisle.
Beyond the sanctuary, the addition creates spaces that support gathering, connection, and ministry throughout the week. The narthex provides a welcoming transition into the worship space and includes a coffee bar for informal gathering. Additional spaces include a conference room, nursery, sacristy, and a 24/7 prayer chapel, extending the building’s role beyond weekend worship.
Throughout design and construction, Sinclair Hille and Beckenhauer worked collaboratively with Faith Lutheran to balance the congregation’s goals, architectural vision, and budget. The completed addition provides a dedicated sanctuary and expanded gathering spaces that support Faith Lutheran’s worship, community, and ministry for years to come.
