UNL Glenn Korff School of Music

The Westbrook Music Building, home to the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, establishes a dynamic new hub for music and dance on UNL’s campus. Designed as a forward-looking center for creative exploration, the 103,000-square-foot facility reimagines the performing arts environment as collaborative, inclusive, and supportive of holistic well-being. Positioned prominently at a key campus intersection, the building forms a civic gateway to the urban edge of UNL while strengthening the identity of the Arts Quad, with the building’s form preserving critical pedestrian pathways and extending the quad’s spatial framework.

With sustainability and occupant wellness central to the design approach, the complex internal program is structured around a series of vertically connected, multi-purpose lightwells that introduce natural daylight, provide outward views, and offer intuitive wayfinding. These light-filled volumes foster visual and acoustic connectivity, uniting diverse program areas while also shaping informal study zones and animating the building’s shared public spaces.

Purpose-built rehearsal rooms and practice suites are acoustically isolated to support focused instruction and performance. The building also includes a state-of-the-art recording studio, music library, faculty studios, student gathering spaces, and shell space for a future café. A signature 190-seat performance hall at the heart of the building operates as both venue and creative pedagogical tool, with adjustable acoustics and integrated, cutting-edge performance technologies supporting interdisciplinary and multimedia productions.

Forging meaningful connections across the campus and within the classroom, the Glenn Korff School of Music translates creativity into lived experience—bridging environment, pedagogy, and personal academic and artistic growth.
