Norfolk Iron and Metal Headquarters

Norfolk Iron and Metal (NIM) is a growing national company with 18 locations. The completed headquarters project in Norfolk, Nebraska included a 16,000 SF addition and 30,000 SF renovation, transforming the existing facility into a modern workplace designed to support collaboration, flexibility, and long-term growth.

The design prioritizes industrial office interior design, creating a large open collaborative area for company-wide meetings alongside updated offices, meeting rooms, and break spaces. The result is a forward-thinking, professional environment that reinforces NIM’s identity while inspiring confidence among employees, clients, and the broader community.

Metal accents are thoughtfully integrated throughout both the exterior and interior to reflect NIM’s core business. The addition aligns with the forms and massing of the original 2004 structure, while a redesigned façade unifies the building through a blend of insulated metal panels, flat lock metal panels, and exposed steel elements. NIM supplied the structural steel and contributed to several custom metal features, reinforcing authenticity in the design.

The project also establishes a clear and welcoming main entrance, designed to be highly visible from Norfolk’s primary highway and to create a strong first impression for visitors and employees alike.

Inside, natural light and views for employee areas were maximized with the creation of a core of amenities and meeting spaces with open office areas surrounding. Smaller, more informal collaboration areas were also scattered throughout. NIM was focused on improving the employee experience and earning the commute, so we added fun features tailored to each department and amenities like Zoom and treadmill desk rooms.

NIM’s brand was reinforced through historic imagery, using giant wall graphics and a material palette of neutrals and blues picking up on the corporate colors and adding interest and identity to the spaces.

Due to the existing building needing to be occupied during construction, the project was divided into two phases. There was also a limited buildable area due to the active warehouse next door and the traffic patterns of truck deliveries surrounding the building.

As a leader in commercial architecture services, Sinclair Hille integrates brand identity, functionality, and long-term flexibility into every project—delivering tailored solutions for industrial and manufacturing clients across Nebraska and the Midwest.
