What inspired you to pursue architecture or design?

I read a fascinating book in a psychology class called The Hidden Dimension, which explores how different cultures use space. I was captivated by the idea that volume, distance, and placement can carry meaning—and even shape and improve our lives.

Which project taught you the most about collaboration?

Probably the Dunklau Center for Science, Math, and Business. There were many key stakeholders whose input needed to be synthesized into a unified design. The academic departments were fantastic collaborators, but things got interesting when the acoustical engineer and mechanical engineer recommended placing the organic chemistry lab in completely opposite locations—the basement versus the top floor. We had to dig into the implications of each option and work together to find a solution that balanced everyone’s needs and served the client’s best interests.

If you could design a dream home for a fictional character, who would it be?

Nancy Drew, Girl Detective. Her dream home would have it all—a fully equipped crime lab, a beautiful office, secret bookshelf doors, hidden passageways, and a backyard pool where she can recharge with George and Bess.
