Jim Davidsaver is committed to the coordination of emergency management and in the event of an emergency, they now have the facility at the ready. Jim and his deputy director Mark Hosking are delighted with the new space and working with David Quade was a perfect fit. After conducting a site and use analysis for a couple of potential locations, including an all new site, the County elected to move forward with renovations at an underused portion of the existing Lancaster County Youth Services Center. Because existing walls were not built to FEMA storm shelter standards, the team elected to construct the new F5 compliant shelter within the confines of the existing building. An additional 1’-0” of grade was removed from the interior in order to create a raised floor assembly for cable and wire management. Existing footings were underpinned and the original roof assembly replaced with a precast assembly. From the exterior, you wouldn’t even know the shelter exists. In addition to the hardened shelter, restrooms, conference rooms, offices and other amenities such as radio communication systems, emergency power and redundant mechanical have all been provided to carry the agency well into the future.
