Michael Penn Retires After 34 Years

Michael Penn Retires After 34 Years
After 34 years in the profession, we are honored to announce the retirement of Michael Penn — a gifted designer, mentor, and environmental steward whose influence has shaped both Sinclair Hille Architects and the greater Lincoln community.
Michael’s career began with inspiration close to home and grew into a lifelong dedication to meaningful, purposeful design. After earning his degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, he began his career refining not only his technical expertise but also his talent for storytelling through architecture — a passion that eventually brought him to Sinclair Hille in 2002.
For more than two decades, Michael has been a cornerstone of our design leadership. He brought sincerity, humor, and collaboration to every conversation, always seeking to understand the “why” behind every challenge. His impact can be seen not just in the places he helped create, but in the people he mentored and the culture he helped cultivate.
Michael’s work reflects a belief that great architecture is not only beautiful — it serves, lasts, and enriches the communities it touches. From notable projects like Antelope Creek Village to leading our cherished annual Arbor Day tradition, he reminded us all that our work should leave the world a bit better than we found it.
As Michael steps into this new chapter, we celebrate a career rooted in curiosity, authenticity, and purpose. Michael will conclude his time with Sinclair Hille on December 18. Thank you, Michael, for the creativity, leadership, and heart you have shared with us for 24 years. Your legacy continues in every space, partnership, and relationship shaped by your work.
Wishing you every joy ahead — and continued adventures in growth, learning, and life.
