City of Gretna

Gretna Community Complex

The Gretna Community Complex will serve as a welcoming civic hub and a one-stop destination for city services. Designed by Sinclair Hille Architects in partnership with Multistudio, the project will transform open farmland into a thoughtfully planned civic campus. Situated on a high point within a roughly 30-acre site, the building will be positioned for views of Gretna and the surrounding landscape, with roads, pedestrian pathways, view corridors, and future development parcels supporting long-term growth.

The two-story complex will unite City Hall, a consolidated public library, and a range of community spaces under one roof. A large entry canopy will create an inviting arrival, while balconies and well-placed windows will connect interior spaces to the site. Inside, flexible meeting rooms, a city council chamber available for public events, a maker space, teaching kitchen, and shared gathering areas will support civic engagement, learning, and collaboration for all ages.

Guided by sustainability and community identity, the design incorporates a geothermal mechanical system, high-performance exterior detailing, and infrastructure for future photovoltaic panels to reduce energy use. Native plantings, outdoor event spaces, a pollinator garden, and food truck hookups will extend activity beyond the building, while locally sourced brick, dynamic metal panels, wood accents, and a two-story hub with a leaf-pattern railing, will create a civic landmark rooted in Gretna’s character.
