Carolyn Pope Edwards College of Education and Human Sciences

Mabel Lee Hall was originally planned by Sinclair Hille Architects as a renovation, but in March 2018 the University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved a strategic shift to a replacement building. Sinclair Hille partnered with Sasaki of Watertown, Massachusetts to develop a revised program. Due to site constraints, the new structure maintains a footprint similar to the existing facility, measuring 93 feet east–west and approximately 340 feet north–south.

The replacement building for the College of Education and Human Sciences is a four-story facility totaling approximately 120,000 gross square feet, with floor plates ranging from 23,500 to 30,000 GSF. The building connects to Teachers College Hall on levels one and two and is designed to support future program needs while advancing 21st-century teaching and learning. Program spaces include 10 classrooms, a 390-seat lecture hall, five class labs, 99 faculty and staff offices, and 56 graduate assistant workstations, with 76 percent of the 70,005 net assignable square feet dedicated to classrooms, research, and offices.

State-of-the-art classrooms, interdisciplinary research space, and strategically placed offices and student support areas encourage collaboration across the college. Technology is seamlessly integrated throughout the building to support distance learning and future growth, including infrastructure for emerging technologies as well as dedicated podcast and virtual reality spaces.
