Jacob Urban, Architectural Associate at Sinclair Hille Architects

Jacob Urban

Architectural Associate

Jacob Urban joined Sinclair Hille Architects in 2023 after earning his Master of Architecture from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln where part of his education involved a hands on exploration into the material capabilities of wood building components, specifically cross-laminated timber.   As an Architectural Associate, he supports the team from programming through construction with experience in drafting, BIM modeling, and technical documentation, helping ensure projects are coordinated and executed efficiently. Jacob’s strong technical skills and attention to detail make him a valuable part of the firm’s collaborative design process.

What inspired you to pursue architecture or design?

When I was younger I loved playing with lincoln logs and legos, and that spirit of solving puzzles and creating something from nothing has stuck with me. Even now I enjoy a good lego set and think one of the most satisfying feelings is putting the final piece of the puzzle in its place and stepping back to admire the hard work it took.

What hobby or activity are you passionate about outside of work?

I love woodworking and have built numerous pieces of furniture for myself. But, more often than not I find myself at soccer fields around the country refereeing all levels from youth through semi-professional leagues.

One word that describes your approach to design.

It is important to hear input from every point of view because there is never one right answer to a design problem, and the most unique solution may come from the seemingly unlikeliest of places.
