What inspired you to pursue architecture or design?
As far back as I can remember, I’ve gravitated toward creative pursuits. As a teen my plan was to pursue art, but once it came time to pick a college path, it was my mom who suggested that I explore the interior design program at UNL. After meeting with faculty and students to learn about the program, I knew without a doubt that interior design was the right fit. I appreciate that I can build on the artistic interests that have always motivated me and apply them to work that benefits my community.
What hobby or activity are you passionate about outside of work?
I enjoy doing nearly anything creative or crafty and often find myself diving headfirst into new projects. I spend a lot of time crocheting and sewing clothes, but have also made forays into painting, woodworking, and reupholstery (just to name a few).
What is one design trend you think will stand the test of time?
Because design trends are always shifting, I’ve come to believe it’s nearly impossible to create a space that’s truly timeless in appearance. What can last, however, are evidence‑based design strategies that genuinely support how people feel and function in a space. One example is incorporating human‑nature interaction patterns, including sensory variability and organic forms, which can reduce stress, boost cognitive performance, and help a space stay meaningful long after trends fade.
